Transitional Housing
LARS has a HUD grant to provide transitional housing for ten families for up to twenty-four months. During the last year, LARS worked with 16 homeless families who had recently completed addictions programs and were reconnecting with their children.
When participants relapse they are referred to appropriate substance abuse treatment programs.
The families participate in budgeting and life-skills workshops and receive employment assistance and referral services.
Graduates are linked to mainstream resources such as medical assistance and purchase of day care vouchers to enable them to remain self-sufficient.
In October 2002, LARS was recognized by the Washington Area Women’s Foundation for it’s innovative work.
