About LARS

Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services, Inc. (LARS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving homeless and low-income families and individuals in Laurel, Maryland. Our service area includes parts of Prince George's (zip codes 20707 and 20708), Howard (20723), and Anne Arundel (20724) Counties.

LARS was founded in 1987 by a group of local congregation leaders and community members who sought a consolidated approach to responding to those who came to their doors for food and financial help. Today LARS is staffed by trained social workers and continues to receive financial and volunteer support from its founding faith-based partner organizations. LARS' mission is to enable homeless and low-income people in crisis to achieve stability and long-term self-sufficiency.

New Celebrate 30 years with LARS, Inc.

This year marks LARS' 30th Anniversary. On June 10th, 2017, from 10 AM until 1 PM, we will be celebrating our "Old Roots and New Routes".

LARS has come a long way since its founding in 1987. It is our wish to take this opportunity to recognize those who have been an integral part of our success over the years. We will honor LARS' founders, volunteers, and board members. Join us as we reflect on where it all began, explore the past 30 years, and look ahead to what we have planned for the future.

We will have a timeline of LARS' history, development, and successes posted throughout the building, which attendees can tour at their leisure. Following the Timeline, we will have some light food and drinks served outside and enjoy a few guest speakers.

Tentative Schedule

  • 10-11:30 am > Timeline
  • 11:30am - noon > Speakers
  • 12-1 pm > Cake and Celebration

We invite you all to celebrate with us as we take a look back at our organization’s unique history and honor the many people who have helped us along the way. RSVP to our (free) celebration at https://lars30th.eventbrite.com.
